Jonathon Gomez Disappointed at All American
Idaho Driver Has Tough Race but Focused on Future
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (April 20, 2011)— Jonathon Gomez, driver of the Heritage Cattle Co./Century Boatland Chevrolet, left All American Speedway this past weekend with little to show for his efforts after an early altercation left him laps down at the conclusion of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series race. While the Idaho entrepreneur persevered and ran lap times as fast as the leaders late in the race, his 20th place finishing position capped a long weekend.
While I am disappointed on how the weekend went, we are focsued on the next race.
—Jonathon Gomez
Gomez qualified 11th for the 150-lap NAPA Auto Care sponsored event and planned to use the early laps just to let the race sort itself out. An early caution on lap 20 bunched up the field, and on the restart several cars behind Gomez made aggressive moves and made contact with the rear of his Chevrolet sending him into the infield in turn two. As Gomez dove low a spinning car made contact with his right front eventually cutting down his tire.
"That was pretty much much the end of the race," Gomez said. "Once we lost those laps changing the tire we were just riding around. We were fast but it really did not matter at that point. We want to win a championship and we need to complete as many laps as we can, and while I am disappointed on how the weekend went, we are focsued on the next race."
Gomez had double duty also competing in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour event. At lap 131 of the 140 lap race, he was running 8th and closing in on the top five. On lap 132 he was sitting in the pits after dropping a valve and losing the motor. "You take the good with the bad in racing," Gomez said. "Last year we were really good and avoided the bad luck. This year we are we have started out with some bad luck but that will change. I have two great teams and we will be back stronger and better at the next race."
The next event for Jonathon Gomez is Saturday, April 30 at the world-class roadcourse facility of Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT. The Larry H. Miller sponsored race features the NASCAR K&N Pro Series for the fourth consecutive season. This year the series will compete on the smaller "East" course providing fans a better view of the racing action.
Gomez currently sits fourth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series championship standings after two races just 19-points out of third place and 93-points behind first place.
Jonathon Gomez is supported by Heritage Cattle Company, Century Boatland, J&C Custom Harvesting, United Oil, Modern Machinery, DJ Safety, and Gomez Farms.
